A brief summary on all of my projects so far…

The Chronicles of Narnia: The Silver Chair

A narrative project

Whilst developing my work in my final year of university, I took on a project creating internal spot and full colour illustrations for the seventh book in The Chronicles of Narnia titled, The Silver Chair. Over the course of the project I developed characters, locations and enjoyed the world of Narnia coming to life in my sketchbook.

Enjoy the pages I poured over throughout this project, as well as the final outcomes…

The Morgawr

A self authored and illustrated graphic novel proposal

The Morgawr, native to Helford Passage, Cornwall, has been sighted a few times over the last fifty years. With its slimy back and serpent like tail, its appearance is likened to Nessie of Loch Ness. Could it be that four Cornish teenagers are up to the task of catching it…

The Morgawr is a graphic novel proposal created to explore Cornish landscape, texture and myth. After spending a few weeks exploring myths of Cornwall, I settled on exploring the Morgawr through four teenager characters, Jim, Riko, Dev and Tabitha (as well as designated driver/ older sister Sara and fisherman Lee). Using digital collaging methods, I layered fine liner pen, watercolour, pastel, pencil and mono print to create textured graphic novel pages dedicated to the Cornish landscape.

Having a midwife for a mother, I’ve always been interested in women’s health, both physical and mental. Creating a pamphlet situated in hospitals felt like the perfect project to visually explore these themes and I decided to specifically explore perinatal mental health issues.

Using references such as Nobody Told Me by Holly McNish, NICE, APNI, Panda’s Foundatation, Tommy’s and RC Physc, I curated a wide range of information to use throughout my pamphlet. I used direct quotes from real parents discussing their experiences, as well as including helplines, websites and QR codes for ease of information.

See below my final pamphlet, plus additional portraits and artworks aiding the project…

By Shel Siverstein and Ogden Nash

This project explores nonsense and surrealism through poetry. Exploring a range of poems, I decided to illustrate two double page spread poems for a theoretical poetry book. Using digitally collaged watercolour elements, I curated my finals with younger audiences in mind, amplifying colour and playful imagery.

Have fun exploring my process work and other drafted poem spreads…
